Statement
The source of my painting is the convergence of memory and nature, an overlapping of inner and outer reality. The pond outside my studio and tidal pools of coastal Maine inspire recurring motifs of biomorphic forms and looping lines. Combining active brushwork with printmaking techniques, I develop a layered paint surface that reflects my lifelong fascination with water, suggesting depth and refraction, containment and overflow.
As the painting process unfolds, I watch for a turning point, a moment when the immediate sensual experience intersects with evoked memories. Paintings are like music... the possible combinations of notes are limitless. I have to be patient and pay attention when the right chord is played, the chord that resonates.
